Hi everyone - This is Sky. She's ~7 years old, mix unknown but maybe lab/chow/whippet??? We took her in a little over a month ago as a foster from a friend. We have a relatively complete history on her, which I'll get into, but before that, I'd like to talk about Sky today. She's an absolute LOVE. She adores her humans and has met new humans on our property with ease and gentleness. She likes our dogs - for the most part. We already have 3, and own a farm, and had a subtle intent to keep her, but she's not so great with our farm animals. She has a high prey drive, and she does have some resource aggression. The resource aggression has been displayed toward our other dogs only, not toward us. It's been at random, over food, toys, and human affection. It seems to be over-stimulation that really brings it on, but it's enough that we think she would do best with one other dog max, but maybe for her to be the only dog with a family she can love who have a backyard she can patrol and play in. Definitely no cats or small animals - her prey drive is high. She's got basic commands, graduated a basic training class right before we got her, is spayed, vetted, etc. When we took her in, she was on trazodone and had just started Prozac. We have had huge success in getting her off the psychiatric meds so we can see her sweet personality. She definitely is doing better with a clear mind and regular exercise. She walks well on a leash but could use continued practice there, as she pulls. She eats well, is house trained with no accidents that we've seen, and loves to snuggle and sleep on the bed. She does not do well in crates and definitely has separation anxiety. She cannot be in an apartment - she will bark any time she's left alone. She hasn't caused any problems in the house for us when left alone, but we give her outdoor access and she does well with our other dogs for company when we leave. One of us works from home, so they're not left alone very often. She's got a history with PACC, and we have her complete file. From her file, she's been surrendered to PACC on three separate occasions since 2021. Each time at PACC, she's been put on trazodone. Of course I understand the kennel stress making that necessary, but I can't stress enough how well she's been without it. She has a minor bite history, but from what I can understand it was in defense of her human and herself, not unprovoked. She needs VERY slow introductions to other dogs but adjusted to ours within a matter of hours (they're all very neutral and well-trained). I don't think she would be good in a dog park setting without more training for her confidence. Overall, she's just a sweetheart who has clearly lived a difficult and misunderstood life. She's headshy, indicating to me she's been hit a lot. She's got scarring all over her body, indicating to me even worse. She's got a kink in her tail which is hard to know if it's natural or malicious. I know Sky has infinite love to give a family who has patience for her as she grows more into her ability to trust the world. We absolutely adore her and will keep her until the right home comes along. From our count, we are at least stop #6 for this girl - she deserves so much better than the life she's had. I know if she was given the time to relax and drop her heavy load for good, she would be the best dog for a family. Please don't hesitate to reach out for more information, or resources to help us find her a home. One thing for sure - we will not place her back in a kennel setting. She's located in Vail, AZ - about 20 mins southeast of Tucson.
