Adoption Fee: $25
Corgi / Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Fitz is a Cowboy Corgi, which means he's part corgi, part heeler, and completely goofball. He has a docked tail, big ears, and the happiest smile. Even though he's a mix of herding breeds, he doesn't nip at heels or try to herd kids. He is amazing at snagging frisbees out of the air and loves to chase down a ball. He always has the biggest smiles when he drops a toy at your feet and waits for the next throw. He plays hard, going all but when he's done he wastes no time heading back inside for a nap. He does great with the super chewer style toys but soft toys do not last. A Lambchop plushie hates to see him coming. His typical day starts with a morning walk and a few throws of the ball. After that he hangs out in the house with the cats. He might play chase with them but never in a mean way. One of our cats does not like him so he keeps his distance from her. He plays fetch inside with the kids, asks for belly rubs, or snoozes at your feet. When we are not home he stays in his crate with a chew toy. In the evenings he gets more playtime, maybe a trip to the creek, and plenty of big, goofy smiles. At night he crashes on the couch until his last walk before bed, then goes to sleep in his crate. Fitz is used to a busy house with kids, dogs, and cats. Our youngest is disabled so Fitz has experience around medical equipment and knows how to navigate around it and smaller children who are learning to walk. He was best friends with our older dog who passed away this spring. We would love to see him have another dog friend since he loves to play and wrestle. We live in a neighborhood with no fence so Fitz stays inside unless we are with him. A fenced yard or a rural area where he can run and fetch would be perfect. He is good on leash and off leash but recall still needs a little work. He has met neighbor dogs who have wandered into our yard, he has always stood his ground and returned to us with no aggression. Fitz knows sit and wait. He is very smart and responds well to treats during training. With consistent work he would pick up new commands quickly. He goes to the door if he needs to go outside and will bark from the crate if he needs to use th The only real issues we have seen is a little separation anxiety, which is much better when he has a dog companion and excitement around people. He loves everyone and gets very energetic when meeting new people or seeing someone he has not seen in a while. He has been know to excited pee if we do not take him out just before visitors arrive or have them greet him outside. And we are working on him not jumping up on people when they walk in the door. He just loves everyone. Health-wise he is doing great. He is still intact since we planned to wait until after his first year to have him neutered. He eats well, goes outside fine, but makes a mess drinking water with that long tongue. He occasionally gets a calming pill if he has not gotten enough outdoor time. Fitz is a fantastic dog who loves to play and be silly but with a major surgery coming up for our youngest child out of state and months of rehab ahead, we have made the hard decision to rehome him. He deserves a home and family who can match his energy and give him the stability and attention he thrives on.
