About Colilbri

Rat Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet Colilbri 'Bri' !! What a roller coaster we've been on with this sweet shy girl!! She's the mom of two litters now as we didn't know she not only came to us with young puppies, she was already pregnant again at the same time. Nothing like a surprise litter you had no idea was coming! Despite all that chaos, this momma has done an amazing job with her pups. She's ready to start looking for a family of her own. After all this we are so excited for someone to finally choose her as their new best friend. (Her first litter the 'lighter litter' were all adopted. Her current pups are posted separately for adoption) Colilbri is a approx 4 year old mix breed, possibly Rat terrier mix. She weighs 20 pounds and is full grown. She will be spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines as part of her adoption. She is Heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. Colilbri is a great little dog but she takes time to warm up to you. She came to us almost in a feral state. She's come so far since arriving. She is the kind of dog you need to ignore for a bit and then she starts seeking out your attention. She needs time to see that you are not scary. If you are willing to give her time she will start to trust you. Her foster has been able to manage her well by going slow and building trust. She has done well with other dogs. At first she ignored them but now she's enjoying to play along side them. We do not know how she would do around cats but she's been around a bunny in a cage and had no reaction. She can adjust to kids but they must be kids that are old enough to respect the dogs boundaries until she is comfortable with them. Colilbri has done better than expected with potty training. She definitely does not want to do it inside. It takes her a few days to trust you so that she can feel safe to go outside with you but once she does she's been great about having no accidents. She has done well on car rides although she's currently nervous and unsure of them. She is currently too afraid to walk on a leash. Colilbri is become quite the character. She's not normally very vocal but will howl if she's outside and hears sirens. It's adorable. She will also bark to alert to someone in the yard or at the door. She is very food motivated which helps a lot with her bonding and training. She hasn't been crated yet to make bonding easier with her foster family. She was initially gated in the kitchen and does really well with that. They've started leaving her out with access to the entire house and she's been very good. She has not shown any issues sharing food, treats or toys with people or other animals. She has started gently taking treats from our hands. Despite being very scared she did well with the vet. Due to her fear level she would need a fenced yard or a secured pen area to potty in until she gains more confidence. Currently her energy level is low but we fully expect her to open up and be a more active girl. We want her adopter to understand that she is likely to change in different ways as she loses the fear and embraces life. She will need a special family willing to help her through the fear and embrace a wonderful new life. Located in Hampton VA.
