About KELLY

Adoption Fee: $450
Poodle mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

*LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY - Within a one hour drive to Pensacola, FL* KELLY is a 1 year old, 18.6 pound Poodle mix with a heart as big as her zoomies. She needs a patient, loving family, with another playful dog her size, who can continue her training, give her the structure she craves, and let her personality shine. This sweet girl has already lived through more than her fair share of hardship. Employees of a local business saw a very matted and terrified KELLY being beaten by her homeless owner and stepped in to rescue her. Understandably, she still carries some trauma. If a hand moves too quickly toward her, she may flinch or cower, and she had a wound on her face that required medical care. But even after all she's been through, KELLY remains a sweet, high-energy girl without a mean bone in her body. KELLY is 100% puppy at heart! She's curious, playful, a little mischievous, and likes to taste-test everything...even her person! She's not above nibbling on a ponytail or an arm or a leg in a mouthy playful puppy way. She absolutely loves being with her person, whether you're cooking, lounging on the couch, or even taking a shower, she wants to be part of it. Now that she is safe she is much less cautious about meeting new people and has been good with neighbors or people she has encountered on walks. KELLY has done well with the dogs she's met, especially those her size and energy level. Her new home absolutely should have a playmate in it to help her burn off energy and continue learning to socialize. She is too much hyper puppy for small or senior dogs. She loves playing and zooming around the yard with her similarly sized foster siblings, though she can be slow to read corrections from other dogs, so a tolerant playmate would be ideal. She isn't a good fit for a home with young kids but would be fine with teenagers. We do not know how she would be with cats. KELLY is eager to learn but came to rescue with no prior training. She is currently learning sit, down, how to take food gently, not to climb on tables, and is practicing better leash manners. Potty training is going very well, she's about 99% reliable, scratching at the door when she needs out (although sometimes it's just to go play). She needs a home with a fenced yard. Outdoor play and zoomies are her favorite things in the world. At night, KELLY sleeps on the big bed, in her own bed, or even on the floor and once she settles down, she stays down until morning. She rides pretty well in the car and can be left for short periods (about 4 hours) in a tall x-pen to keep her out of mischief, but she is not a candidate for long hours crated or penned. KELLY has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida.
