About George

Great Pyrenees / Saint Bernard
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This is George. George is an Saint Bernard/Great Pyrenees mix and weighs apprx 115-120 lbs. For close to 2 years, George and Piper were being starved living off portions of table scraps (when he was allowed to eat at all). They had basically NO shelter from the elements. What little water he had was muddy and not drinkable. He attempted to get water off of a small tin roof when it rained that barely covered his living area (which was chained to a post and unable to move past approximately 5 feet). George would be punched and kicked by the father and kids of the family. He was severely underweight. Like so many dogs who have known fear and neglect, he carries some emotional scars that sometimes show up as behavior challenges. But challenges do not define him - and they do not make him dangerous or unworthy of a loving home. George is not broken. He is a beautiful soul who simply needs understanding, patience, and time to adjust to a new environment. He will not be a lap dog or cuddle buddy. He shows great affection, but also needs his alone time to just hang out and not be smothered. He will lay at your feet while you do the dishes and lay on the floor and watch tv with you. Piper (Pharoah Hound mix) is the cuddle buddy if you are looking for that. A loving, playful, high energy, smaller dog (30 lbs) that loves hugs and kisses and would be great with a family of adults and kids that can match her energy. She loves her toys! Since the day they were rescued, they have been provided with food, vet care, up-to-date vaccinations, treats, walks, love, and safety. George lives with his foster family because we do not have the space or environment for a large dog. George is an amazing dog. Loving, Loyal, and Gentle with people he gets to know and trust and who will take the time to get to know him. Playful. Protective. Intelligent. True to his breed, George is an alpha dog. He wants to lead and protect. From past meet-and-greets, we've learned that he tends to follow the temperament of the Pyrenees in him. He can be wary of strangers and does not do well with larger male dogs. Interestingly, he is wonderful with smaller dogs and absolutely adores Piper, who lives with him in a fenced outdoor yard. Their bond is real and beautiful, and our greatest hope was always to see them adopted together. Sadly, interest has been minimal. The foster family has made the painful decision that they can no longer keep George. Please understand - they loved him deeply and gave him a safe, beautiful place to heal. We will always be grateful for that. But health concerns of the foster family have gradually gotten worse. Now we are here. We will not give up on him. That is why we are working closely with Command Canine out of Cornelius, NC, a renowned training team known for helping dogs who come from the hardest beginnings. We believe wholeheartedly in Chelsey and Maggie, and we trust in their experience, compassion, and dedication to bring out the very best in George. They have agreed to help any adopter over the phone or through zoom call make the transition for George to his new environment. They assessed him to be just a normal dog that does normal dog behavior for their breed and circumstances. We will stop at nothing to get George the support he deserves. Time. Love. Structure. Ending his life is not an option - now or ever. George would thrive as a farm dog or with someone experienced, patient, and willing to build trust slowly. An Apartment or small condo would probably not be a good fit for his size. He does not need perfection - he needs understanding, structure, and time to decompress in a new environment. George is leash trained and is comfortable in a house and goes to the door when he needs to potty. If you know someone who might be his person. If you know someone with land, patience, and a heart for the misunderstood, please share this post. George deserves the same chance that every rescued animal deserves: the chance to feel safe, to learn, and to one day know what it truly means to be part of a family.
