Quest is approx. 9 months old and thought to be a Black Mouth Cur, possibly with Lab and/or Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. He has lived with our family since March 2025 and while we very much want to keep him, we have learned that he is unable to live with our other dog, a 15 year old Rat Terrier. Quest is an amazing dog and would bring joy to someone's life as an only dog. He is a very loving, intelligent and obedient dog with an entertaining and goofy personality. He is motivated both by food/treats and affection and is eager to learn and please. He is potty, crate and leash trained and has learned sit, lay down, stay (including to wait for 'ok' command to come to his food dish and enter the house) and is working on drop it, leave it and come. He loves to take walks and run around outside, or follow his humans around as they work and play outside. When inside, he is calm and often naps or lays by your feet. We've taught him to stay down off the counters and people (including strangers/guests) and only go onto the couch when asked. He's been socialized around others with trips to the gas station, stores and school pick up. He becomes alert when he hears a knock at the door, but rarely barks and will often 'talk' to you with soft noises when he needs to go out or wants affection. He gets along well with our three cats and show great affection and calmness with our three kids (ages 6, 8, 10). He has, however, shown food guarding/aggression around food toward our older and smaller dog and for this reason we are rehoming him to a household where he can be happy and safe as the only dog in the house. We may be able to explore the possibility of an experienced dog owner with another dog of similar age and size. We found Quest wandering on our dirt road where we live on the edge of Omaha (Ponca Hills); he was skinny but otherwise healthy and quickly trusted and opened up to us. We did an extensive search to find an owner, but no one came forward. He initially got along well with our Rat Terrier, but there have been a few isolated incidents over the summer. He has never shown any other signs of or aggressive behavior toward adults, kids, cats and other dogs he's visited and stayed with while we were out of town. We've consulted with NHS's behavioral help line and they said it's likely limited toward other dogs and due to experiencing food scarcity at a young age (before we found him). They said it could be specific to our other dog or the fact that he is smaller and older, and he could train or outgrow it. He's fully vaccinated, chipped and neutered (at 7 months). When outside with someone he stays close and does not have a desire to run away; he's been trained on a GPS invisible fence collar, but needs some additional training as he sometimes ventures past the boundary into the woods if bored and wanting to explore. He's about 50-60 lbs and since he's under a year old, probably has a bit more to grow (vet estimates 65-75 lbs full grown). I'm happy to share more about him and arrange a meet & greet if you think Quest could be a fit for you! *fee is to ensure a safe home
