About Gilly

Adoption Fee: $350
Corgi
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

This is Gilly! He is a 4 year old corgi (pembroke/cardigan mix) and he is in need of a new home! His former owner (my mother) can no longer keep him due to health issues in the family, and he's been moved to my home. I can't take care of him as I work full time and have health issues of my own. Gilly is a clown who loves to play. He always wants to be outside! Recall is also great, as he never leaves your side. Tug o' war is his favorite game and he can play for hours. Very smart, knows a bunch of tricks (sit pretty, spin, holding treats on his nose, etc). Can learn anything if you can get past that corgi stubbornness. He has not been fixed. My parents are rural and don't believe in fixing dogs, so he will have to be neutered upon adoption. Due to this he has some dominance issues, but they will likely be fixed with neutering. He wants to do what he wants to do, but he will obey a confident and experienced handler. So confident and experienced owners only, please! He needs someone who knows how to handle a moderately energetic herding breed. He will grumble if he's unhappy or nervous, and could possibly nip if pushed, but he has never bitten. Gilly is crate trained! He's happy to hang out in his crate, and he usually eats in his crate too. He had some resource guarding issues as a pup but hasn't shown any signs of it since being trained. Does not eat until he's given permission to do so! Loves water, loves to swim! Loves to hike. He loves meeting new people on his terms, and loves to play with them. Not a fan of small children, he WILL try to nip them. Might get along with older kids who don't jump and carry on around him. Totally used to being carried and bathed, but does not like his paws touched! (though he will shake) Because of this, his claws have overgrown, and he is in need of a groomer. Might need to be muzzled at the groomers even though he's never bitten. He gets nervous and touchy so it's better to be safe than sorry. Not much of a barker for a corgi, but he will bark if a stranger enters the house! A bit of a whiner. :) Also, he's great with other animals! No issues that I know of. He's been around cats all his life and while he gets in their face, he won't bother them much. Never had any issues with other dogs either. So do you think you'd like a goofy, bull-headed boy like him? Are you a patient and experienced dog owner looking for a hiking buddy who won't leave your side? Gilly may be the pup for you. There is a 350$ adoption fee to make sure he goes to a good home, and to help with some fees while he's been in my care. He also MUST be neutered after you take him home, this is NOT a breeding dog (plus it'll help tone down his bossy personality).
