About Kody

Adoption Fee: $100
Lab / German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

It breaks our heart because 98% he's the perfect boy, but we have to find a better suited home for him for personal reasons. He'll be your sweet, big and loyal protector. He's 72lbs, very attentive and a great guard dog as well. He loves women and is totally fine and neutral with kids. He's great with other dogs (except intact males) and plays wild but is very respectful if the other dog wants to chill.'۬ The problem: He does not like most older men. He reacts with barking, growling, lunging (no biting) as he is afraid of them and wants them to go away. In his territory he sometimes also reacts towards younger men if they're too close to him. He does bond well with most men though in the right context. He went to a dog sitter where an older male visited and he was fine and sweet, so it might just be very situational or only on his turf. '۬ Once he knows you're not scary, he will love you and follow your every movement, a true velcro dog and snuggle bug. He loves pets and being close to his person. In the house he is very chill and patient, will just sleep or occasionally play with his toys. Great for home office folks. '۬He is fine left alone for up to 5 hours, we didn't need that to be longer yet. Not destructive in the house and insanely well potty trained (he's got a bladder of steel). He is crate trained, but prefers to have more space when home alone. '۬He is muzzle trained just in case for introductions to new people. He's good on leash, but when he sniffs a deer he'll pull a bunch. He's got a strong sense of smell so could benefit from scent work (or be your next truffle dog?). His prey drive is very high and he's a good hunter. Will keep critters away, but also thinks cats are critters, so no cats are advised. '۬He's very smart and learns quickly, easy to teach tricks, pretty good recall, he loves to play fetch and tug, but is not overly obsessed with it. '۬'۬I did a DNA test on him and he's 33% Lab, 27% German Shepherd, 23% Husky, 17% French Mastiff - no unhealthy genes detected. He's from a rescue who got him from a reservation. The vet guesses he's 2-5 years old. His health is great, nice teeth and coat, UTD on all his shots, including Lepto. '۬He's currently on Clomipramine for anxiety (of old men), but I am now slowly weaning him off of it since I'm sure that his reactivity worsened since taking it (which can happen with that drug).'۬'۬Where we live we don't get enough exposure regularly to train his reactivity on neutral ground, which is unfair towards him. '۬But we really just want the best for him so want to make sure you're a great fit. We're willing to drive and meet up.
