Saila was abandoned by her previous owners when they moved out of the country. She was picked up by animal control in Georgia and later transferred to our facility in Maryland. Since arriving, Saila has struggled to settle into home environments. She has been adopted and returned three times. Two adoptions lasted two days, and the third lasted four days. All returns were due to the same behaviors: mouthiness and hyper fixation when excited. These behaviors have increased in severity with each unsuccessful placement. When Saila first arrived, she behaved appropriately around children. However, after multiple failed adoptions and returns, her behavior has worsened, and she can no longer be placed in a home with children. She also cannot live with other dogs at this time. Saila needs an owner who has experience with behaviorally challenging dogs. She requires structure, consistency, and someone who can confidently manage and redirect her excitement before it escalates. She needs someone who can teach her appropriate behaviors and help undo patterns that have formed from repeated instability. To better understand her tendencies, Saila received a DNA test. Her breed mix is: 67.7% Great Pyrenees 9.8% Dalmatian 8.8% Basset Hound 7.3% German Shepherd 6.4% Rottweiler Given her history, Saila is at the point where she needs a committed adopter who understands the seriousness of her behaviors and is prepared to work with her long-term. She is, genuinely, looking for a final chance.
