Aussie Rescue of the Mid-Atlantic - ARMA is excited to accept Foster to Adopt applications for sweet Emmie. Emmie is a 2 year old double merle Australian Shepherd with a heart full of love and a spirit that's learning to shine. Born deaf and visually impaired, Emmie may not experience the world like most dogs, but she navigates it in her own beautiful way. While Emmie can't see objects right in front of her and often bumps into things, she's believed to see shadows-and once she learns her surroundings, she zips around with surprising confidence. Indoors and in familiar spaces, she becomes playful and curious. She absolutely loves spending time outside during the day, taking in all the scents and sensations, but nighttime can be scary for her, so she needs a calm, reassuring environment. Emmie is currently living with two other foster dogs who have become her guides and companions. Their presence has been instrumental in helping her build confidence and feel secure. She follows their lead, learns from their cues, and enjoys their company. A home with a well-adjusted dog could be a wonderful match for her continued growth. Emmie is naturally shy and nervous with new people, but with patience, time, and a gentle approach, she begins to trust-and once she does, she is incredibly sweet and loving. She's still gaining confidence and hasn't ventured off the property yet, but she's making progress every day in the safety of the yard. Because of her impairments, Emmie must have a securely fenced yard-she's quite the escape artist and needs boundaries to explore safely.
