Chance was either dumped near our home or made his way to us. We don't know how old he is but we guess he is about 2 years old. We don't know if he is a purebred or mix. However, he certainly appears to be a purebred. Initially, he was very timid and would cower when my husband stood from a sitting position or raised an object in the air. He did not respond the same with me so we believe he was abused by a man. He now trusts my husband and his personality shines through. He is also back to a healthy weight. We have 2 acres where he can roam freely so he exerts some energy by hunting/chasing squirrels and lizards. We know he needs other stimulation through training. However, we have been unsuccessful in finding what motivates him in order to train him. We've tried all types of food and treats but nothing works. He can perform stay, come and sit commands but only when he wants to comply. He is food aggressive with other dogs and possessive of balls. We can throw a ball and he will retrieve it and drop it near us IF we throw another ball quickly. We get about 5-7 throws out of him and then he stops responding. He will not give up the ball and eventually buries it. He is friendly but mouthy/chompy when excited and friends and family feel nervous around him. As a result, we don't feel comfortable keeping him. We will foster him until we find a suitable home for him with someone who is knowledgeable about the breed and is able to fulfill his mental and physical needs.
