Stevie is a really sweet and loving blue heeler; any issues she has rest solely on us. We got her when she was a few months old, but getting her at that time was an extremely irresponsible decision, as we also had a one year old - our first child, smack dab in the middle of the pandemic; we were not prepared for a new puppy at all, let alone a breed that, by nature, requires a large amount of attention and engagement, especially in their formative puppy stage. This situation led to her spending most of her time alone in our back yard; she had lots of room to run around, but I suppose none of that really mattered given the context of insufficient human or other-dog engagement. As such, she is fraught with major depression and anxiety. She's an extremely sweet and loving dog to people, but this isn't a given; she warms up after a slow and methodical familiarization process. She's potty trained and crate trained. We have a Siamese cat, and Stevie had 0 issues or incidents with her. Regarding other dogs, my dad, who's had her for the last few years, says 'She is passive in dog parks and at the kennel. She won't typically start fights but if a dog is in her turf or coming at her she is a demon.' Not quite an off-leash dog, unfortunately. She does well with consistency, a view of the outdoors, and a loving human partner. Overall, she is very sweet, very loyal, but also very protective. She'll be 6 in November 2025.
