About Hope

Hope - an almost 11-year-old Shar-Pei mixed-breed (half Shar-Pei, half a delightful mix of 11 other breeds!) weighing 40 pounds of quiet wisdom and steady companionship. Coco is spayed, current on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. She's intelligent, independent, and wonderfully low-key - the kind of dog who doesn't need chaos or constant entertainment, but does need a responsible, common-sense human who appreciates a thoughtful partner. At heart, Coco is an explorer. She loves daily outdoor adventures - relaxed walks under 1.5 miles, park outings, even kayaking and cabin camping. She has accompanied her trainer on countless errands, road trips, and social visits. She walks beautifully on a loose leash, is comfortable on a long line with a harness, rides great in the car, and is even comfortable wearing a muzzle if needed. Inside the home, Coco is respectful and easy to live with. She's housebroken, well-mannered, and content to nap in her crate or lay quietly by your feet. Her energy level is low, but she thrives when she has a consistent routine that includes safe outdoor exploration. Coco bonds deeply with her person and truly shines in a one-on-one partnership. She is comfortable seeing dogs out on walks or at a distance, but feels nervous in close quarters or when confronted. For this reason, she is seeking a home as the only dog. She is not recommended for homes with young children or small animals (cats, chickens, etc.) due to her herd/prey drive. Coco is also a bit of a wanderer at heart, so doors and gates must be managed thoughtfully. She does best with someone who understands that secure boundaries and mindful handling are part of loving her well. After spending far too long in a shelter environment in **Saint Augustine**, Coco is ready for her forever home - a calm, stable place where she is cherished and accepted for the amazing companion she is. If you are a grounded, respectful person who enjoys the outdoors, values partnership, and understands responsible dog stewardship, Coco may be waiting for you.
