Whiskey was a stray hitchhiker that we picked up in Tennessee on a weekend getaway! According to a witness, she leapt from a moving vehicle on a busy highway! We're unsure if her owners chose to leave her behind, or if they simply didn't notice she was gone. Regardless, she hopped right into my husband's lap at a red light! After extensively searching for an owner in the area (both online and in-person), we've now turned to finding her a forever home where she won't have to worry about hitchhiking anymore! PERSONALITY: The absolute SWEETEST couch potato. She's always excited to snuggle up on the couch or in bed, and will happily warm your feet at night. She LOVES squeaky toys, and will busy herself with setting new personal records for her de-stuffing speedrun while you are otherwise occupied. TRAINING: Whiskey is house trained, and has not had an accident once since we brought her home. After a few days of working with her, she now crates easily! She settles down for a nap very quickly, and is happy to just hang out in her crate while you're out and about. She walks easily on a leash & harness, but she does pull if she sees a squirrel or other interesting thing. She seems to be almost completely non-reactive to other dogs when on a leash (see video attached). SHE IS A COUNTER SURFER! We've been working on this, but it's a hard habit to break. Please be aware that if it's within reach of her snoot, she will snatch it and eat it, lol. OTHER ANIMALS/CHILDREN: Whiskey has been very curious (but respectful of boundaries) with our cats, and excited (but mostly neutral) about our other dogs. She was kept at a sitter's house while we prepared our home for her, and did well with the sitter's young daughter and her other similarly-sized dogs. She was even polite with chickens, when she was introduced to them. MEDICAL/VET RECORDS: Though she's come to us unaltered, we are having her spayed before she moves on to her forever family. She will be UNAVAILABLE until after she heals from her spay. Please contact me with any questions on this matter. My personal vet believes this is likely her first heat, because she looks to be VERY young (under a year old). She has two abrasions/scabs on the inside of her back legs, which the vet speculated could be from some sort of allergy (as these particular types of mixed-breed dogs are prone to. She may benefit from a Cytopoint shot at some time in the future, although it's too early to tell at this point. WHISKEY'S IDEAL HOME: This sweet girl needs a laid-back family or person who can take her for two to three ten/fifteen minute walks a day, or has a fenced yard and can supervise regular jaunts around the property. She does tend to put things in her mouth (like a toddler, lol) if she is unsupervised, so we cannot recommend that she go to a home where she will be left unattended outdoors for any extended period of time. Because we have only had her for a couple weeks, I also cannot guarantee that she will react the same to a new environment as she has to our home. We are very fortunate to work from home most days, and are able to supervise her almost 24/7. Every dog needs a decompression stage, so please keep this in mind when adopting or rescuing any animal. If Miss Whiskey sounds like your type of dog, please send me a text or email! I'm more than happy to answer any questions about her. *** We will require a meet-and-greet and/or a home visit with all humans and pets in the household before she goes to her forever home, just to be extra sure that she will fit in with your pack. ***
