About EBONY

EBONY is a precious 7-year-old, 12 pound black Chihuahua who was surrendered to us after a life of breeding. Now it's her turn to be someone's beloved pet. We hope she will soon have the loving home that she so very much deserves. EBONY is a gentle, timid soul who's still discovering what it means to be a beloved companion. Life hasn't always been easy for her, but every day she makes a little more progress and lets her personality shine through. She's especially motivated by treats and is slowly learning to trust that people, and even other dogs, can be kind. Once very shy about affection, EBONY has now blossomed into a dog who loves attention. She's become a big fan of head and butt scratches, belly rubs, and gentle love from her foster mom. She even gives the sweetest kisses now! She's also recently discovered the joy of playing with toys and likes to carry them outside. (She hasn't figured out how to bring them in yet, though!) After coming to us with scars from past dog attacks, EBONY was understandably defensive around other dogs. But thanks to the calm and loving dogs in her foster home, she's learning that she doesn't need to live in fear. She now plays with several of them, even if just in short bursts, and will sometimes zoom around the house and yard with her tiny foster sibling! She hasn't been tested with cats and isn't suited for a home with children. EBONY is making steady progress with potty training, though still has occasional accidents. She's not leash trained and is afraid of the unfamiliar, so a calm home with a fenced yard is a must for her safety. EBONY sleeps peacefully on the big bed at night with her foster siblings and only gives a quiet growl if someone gets too close to her bed while she's resting, just her way of protecting her safe space. She still gets a little nervous about being picked up but will sit patiently and accept the lift when she's offered, especially if it means a cozy spot and treats on the big bed! EBONY has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She does have luxating patellas, not uncommon in little dogs. Side note: she has an occasional cherry eye that comes and goes, but it doesn't bother her a bit! To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review. Please remember to check your spam folder for any communication from our team. We adopt to homes within a 1-6 hour drive to Pensacola. Puppies and dogs with pending vet appointments, and some dogs with behavioral or medical issues are only adoptable locally.
