Darby is in a high kill shelter located in Castaic, California. Transportation information is available. Please save her before it's too late!!! ANIMAL ID#: A5708258 ANIMAL NAME: DARBY Darby is an 11 month old, female, chocolate and tan, German Shepherd/Siberian Husky mix. This sweet girl was surrendered after the owner's landlord would not let him keep his dog. Darby has a gentle nature and a heart full of love. While toys aren't really her thing, Darby lights up when she's around people. She'll happily crawl into your lap, shower you with kisses, and soak up all the affection you're willing to give. Darby already knows how to sit for treats (and she takes them oh-so-gently), and she's currently learning to walk on a leash. Every day she's gaining more confidence and skill! With her beautiful red coat and soft eyes, Darby turns heads wherever she goes. But what truly makes her shine is her kind and patient spirit. If you're looking for a quiet, loyal companion who prefers snuggles over squeaky toys, Darby is waiting for you! While at Darby's kennel, she approached the gate to sniff the runner's hand with a low body. As the leash was presented, she took a few steps back. She was easily leashed in kennel but was resistant to walk on leash, pulling back. The volunteer carried her without issue to the catch pen. She lightly trembled but tolerated the collar being clasped around her neck. She was carried into the yard as she resisted walking on leash. She sat at the gate for several minutes. She exchanged several greetings as she remained tense but tolerant. She then approached a handler, placing her paws on her lap, seeking reassurance. She was not comfortable with playful dogs as she exposed her teeth to a male husky who came up enticing her to play. She then approached a second handler, lightly jumping on his side to solicit affection. She began to relax as time passed, approaching the other dogs and even tolerating others enticing her for play. She did play bow at the male husky as he enticed her to play but full play did not erupt. She had completely relaxed and spent the rest of her time in the yard roaming with all the other dogs. She needs further socialization and leash training.
