About STELLA

Adoption Fee: $350
Dachshund mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

STELLA is a 4-year-old, 20-pound dachshund mix who was adopted from us as a puppy and recently returned because she was not adjusting to new children in the home. She is ready to find a forever home that matches her sweet, affectionate nature! STELLA is a true lap dog. She is unbelievably snuggly and happiest when she's curled up with her person. While she's still settling into her new surroundings and tends to be quiet and calm, she has the potential to be a fun, goofy little adventurer once she feels fully secure. New situations can make her a bit nervous at first, but she adjusts quickly. Her foster family, who also fostered her when she was a puppy, say she's still the same loving, kissy, adventurous girl she was four years ago. They do want to make one thing perfectly clear: STELLA is V E R Y kissy. She doesn't have an off switch. She has no sense of personal space. She'll sit beside you with her nose an inch from your face and just stare, waiting for her next opportunity to smother you with love. STELLA only barks when necessary, has good house manners, and will sit and wait for her meals like a little lady. She's housebroken, though she might have a few accidents as she gets used to a new place. She's leash trained and absolutely lights up when she sees her harness come out. With an active person or family who enjoys long walks or outings, STELLA should do just fine without a fenced yard, but should always be kept on leash due to her curious, adventurous nature. STELLA could be fine as an only dog in the right home after a few days of settling in, but she really would love the companionship of another playful dog around her size. In her foster home, she's perfectly content with dogs from 4 pounds to 40 pounds, though the tiniest ones give her pause. She's pretty sure they're squirrel-sized gremlins waiting to pounce. Her experience with cats is unknown, and we are looking for a kid-free home. A bit of separation anxiety is to be expected at first, but once she's comfortable with her routine, she'll snooze peacefully while you're away. At night, STELLA loves to sleep curled right up against her person in the big bed. If you're looking for a sweet, loyal shadow who wants nothing more than adventures by day and snuggles by night, STELLA might be your perfect match. STELLA has had a wellness checkup at the vet, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida.
