About Oreo

Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Oreo is a beautiful blue heeler who was surrendered by his previous owner because they had no heeler experience. He is located in Florida at Osceola animal shelter(A329514) is a 2-year-old male dog who was surrendered by his owner due to concerns about possible apprehension towards strangers and no heeler experience/knowledge. Upon intake, Oreo's medical exam showed no current health concerns. According to the former owner, seemed nervous/unsure around one of the kids who was handling him rough, though no bites have occurred. She also shared that he is generally submissive around her husband, does well with her two children (ages 10 and 11), and tends to avoid new people. The previous owner had him housed in an outdoor kennel, and feared he could pose a risk if he escaped. Our behaviorist evaluated Oreo during intake. While initially unsure to direct eye contact and handling, Oreo de-escalated when pressure was reduced and responded positively to treat-based redirection. He tolerated being muzzled and handled during vaccination, though he displayed ongoing fearful body language. On 7/16/25, Oreo was noted to be fearful but curious in the kennel and walked well on leash when given time to approach. He explored the yard but was avoidant of another dog during a gate greeting. He remained fearful with collaring but did not display aggressive behavior. Oreo is currently being given time to decompress in the shelter environment and will continue to be monitored and evaluated.
