From the moment he came into rescue, he was all about being snuggled and loved!! He will run to the door to greet his foster mom and then has the sweetest zoomie/play growl/blanket scrunching routine to let her know he is happy she's back. He is the ultimate companion dog!! He is very smart and a quick study. He did fabulous from day 1 learning to walk with a harness and leash, staying right by foster mom and doesn't pull on the leash. He loves to go for walks and car rides. When the rescue attended a local event, Dexter went with his foster mom and did great. He adapts well to new environments and loves meeting new people - and pups! Dex loves to burrow and most days you will find him curled up on the couch or sunbathing on the deck while foster mom works. Evenings are reserved for serious cuddles. Dex will crawl up next to foster mom, lean in, look up with loving eyes, and get his snuggle on for tv or reading time. He never blinked an eye during July 4th fireworks and doesn't seem to mind thunderstorms at all. He does bark warnings when necessary but will quiet down immediately when told to do so. Dex seems to enjoy a quiet, rather sedentary life with his foster mom who works from home and is around most of the time, but we feel he would enjoy a more active environment just as much. Dex will sleep in a bed on the floor, but his preference is to be under the covers in the big bed with his people. As long as his partner, Lillie is with him, Dex does fine when left at home. Lillie was surrendered along with Dex by loving owners who did not have the means to care for her but wanted her to find a great permanent home. Lillie is the most laid back, chill lady! Her favorite things are to snuggle under blankets or next to foster mom, sunbathe on the deck, or take car rides. She has done well learning to walk with a harness and leash but in typical dachshund fashion, how fast, how far, and if she walks is up to her. Lillie is smart but she is an observer. She surveys the situation and then decides how she will proceed. She will explore her new environment but ultimately, she wants to snuggle, burrow under blankets, sunbathe, or lay in the front window and watch the world. Lillie had a much-needed dental done with 22 teeth removed (she has 3 left) but she came through the procedure and healed like a champion. Her tongue may hang out, but she is still able to give kisses! Lillie attended the same rescue event along with Dexter, and she too loved meeting all the new people and getting loved on and attention from all the attendees! True to her breed, Lillie loves to burrow, so there are many dog beds and blankets around for her choosing. When awake, she loves to lie in the front window. After work, the evening meal, and potty time, she loves to have her belly rubbed and will curl up next to foster mom on the couch. She did just fine with July 4th fireworks and doesn't seem to mind thunderstorms either. Foster mom has only heard her bark a few times. Seems she is content to allow her partner, Dexter, to take the lead in that area! Lillie is Dex's safety anchor. She is so calm and chill. She keeps Dexter from becoming anxious. These two are the definition of a 'bonded pair' and would be truly lost without each other. Both Dexter and Lillie are fully vetted: Altered, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. They are being fostered in North Canton, OH and available for an adoption fee of $600.00 for the pair.
