About ROXANNE

Adoption Fee: $500
Pomeranian
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

*LOCAL ADOPTION ONLY - Within a one hour drive to Pensacola, FL* ROXANNE is a 3-year-old, 7.7 lb Pomeranian surrendered by her owner. She is curious, energetic, silly and sweet... all wrapped in one foxy little package! BUT she also has strong fear reactions to loud sounds, the unknown, and strangers. Her instinct when she is frightened is to get far away from whatever is scaring her, even if she is with someone she trusts. Until ROXANNE knows you, she will be skittish and hesitant to approach or be picked up. Once she is comfortable with you, she stays close and asks for attention. She enjoys head scratches, belly rubs, and being brushed. She is not a fan of kisses, mostly because she does not like kissy sounds. Even though ROXANNE is very comfortable in her foster home and trusts her foster family, if something scares her (usually an unexpected noise), her foster mom has to go find her, convince her to be picked up, and reasure her until she calms down. She absolutely needs a patient, loving person to let her adjust in a calm environment. ROXANNE gets along well with other small dogs and loves to nap and zoom around the yard with them. She definitely needs a home with another dog of similar size and age to give her confidence. She shares her foster home with a cat who sometimes gets barked at, but she's not aggressive with him. She does will not be good in a home with kids. ROXANNE's potty training skills come and go. She'll typically use a potty pad if she can't get outside, but sometimes misses. She's very afraid of a leash, and her foster mom is working to help her with that, but walks are completely out of the question. A home with a fully fenced SECURE yard is a non-negotiable. She's quick and clever when it comes to rushing through doors and gates. New things can easily spook her and for her safety she should always be in a carrier in a car and when going in and out of secured areas. She absolutely should not go to a home with a pool. At bedtime, ROXANNE has the choice of sleeping in the bedroom on a dog bed or in the bed with her foster family. She usually picks her foster family, but sometimes asks to be put down. ROXANNE is up to date on shots, spayed, had a recent dental, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She is heartworm positive and has started her treatment which will be continued by the rescue until she is heartworm free. *To meet or adopt one of our dogs, you must first submit an adoption application for review.
