Ellie is a 4 year old spayed, healthy female, mixed breed (Mountain Cur/Chesapeake Bay Retriever) and is looking for her forever home. This sweet girl is an absolute joy, and LOVES to work. She could be your weekend warrior: she loves the water and loves hiking. She could also excel in a variety of sports such as FastCAT, scentwork, or even dock diving with some training! She could even make a fun agility dog, if she can work with a trainer that is patient and can introduce obstacles gradually. Once she sees the picture, she's a very confident girl. But sometimes new things can be scary at first. Ellie has graduated from a 30 day board and train, and has shown great improvement in her confidence and reactivity. She is fully trained on an ecollar and does well in her crate. She has been crate trained since she was a puppy, but will not pass up the opportunity for nighttime snuggles at the end of the day on her human's bed before residing in her crate for the night. Ellie is a an anxious dog, which when not managed can turn into aggression. Ellie is a dog that requires some daily management and is very food motivated. She doesn't need you to train her for hours every day, but she does need structured walks and play for fulfillment. She loves a trip to Lowe's for enrichment and treats from her friends in the Red Vests. Her off-switch has improved with training and would benefit from continued work. Once's she's been fulfilled, she loves to sunbathe or take a nice long nap on the couch. She's had a tendency to resource guard stolen items in the past, but has shown improvement and isn't a dog to be considered 'unsafe'. She can be reactive to strangers and loud noises, so she is not the type of dog to join you in house party festivities. Frequent strangers/visitors are not ideal. Once she's built a relationship, she does fantastic with her inner circle. She would benefit by not being unsupervised around other people, animals, etc. Ellie needs to be placed in a home where she is either an only dog, or the household is very experienced in managing high-drive dogs. If another dog is too forward or pushy, she will let them know, and she does have a limit. It's recommended she be placed in a home with no cats or small animals, as she exhibits some strong prey drive. Absolutely NO children, no exceptions. Ellie is nervous and reactive around children/babies. Ellie is a sweet, goofy girl where her pros absolutely outweigh her cons. She has been greatly loved the past 4 years, and being up front and honest about her is what is most important to ensure her next home is truly her forever home. She loves going on hikes, swimming, and playing ball. She will never turn down the opportunity to lay in the sun or roll around on fresh cut grass. She loves belly scratches first thing in the mornings and cuddling in her humans bed at night. Ellie is a smart and loving girl, who will make the right house a home. If her future family is in the Raleigh/Durham or Wilmington/Jacksonville area, Ellie's trainer is happy to follow up in person for support. If her adopters are farther away the trainer can be available via virtual assistance.
