About Goldy

Adoption Fee: $250
Poodle / Bichon Frise
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Goldy is a two year old toy poodle/bichon frise mix who was surrendered, along with his companion Homer to the Montco SPCA in early September 2024 at age 1 year, 3 months old. The limited information given by the SPCA about Goldy's background was that she and Homer had been purchased from a Greenfield breeder (not sure which one or whether it would be considered a puppy mill) and then promptly bred by their owners at the earliest opportunity. The owners then decided to keep the litter of puppies and took the parents to leave at the SPCA. I adopted both dogs a few days after they were surrendered to the SPCA. They were clearly very attached to one another and it did not seem right to separate them, although I had been ideally looking to adopt only one dog. Goldy either was never fully house trained or regressed in her new surroundings and took several months and prozac to (mostly) reliably get her to do her business outside. She continues, however, to both pee and poop in the house on occasion and this in one of the biggest difficulties I have with her. She is also more reactive to multiple triggers than Homer is and her anxiety makes her frequently hyper. She and Homer get along well together, but Goldy goes ballistic when encountering other dogs. She gets worked up easily will pace around or jump on me and climb all over me if I am laying or sitting down. She has improved somewhat with training, but is still triggered easily. We have worked with two different trainers and tried anti-anxiety medications (which seemed to help with house training) and I believe that with the right approach and time she can be a loyal and obedient companion. It is difficult to comtemplate giving up both dogs, but I do not seem to have the resources or time to truly help them live their best lives. I am hoping that there is a home for both dogs out there with someone who can provide a more structured routine and more successfully help them overcome whatever traumas they suffered in their early lives.
