About Kika

Adoption Fee: $300.00
Yorkie
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

KIKA is a 9 year old, 6.10 pound sweet Yorkie who's come such a long way since arriving in rescue. She was surrendered with a big group of dogs due to the owners declining health. She needs a home with a fenced yard and another calm small dog to help her gain confidence. KIKA was initially timid and scared, but her foster mom has been patiently and lovingly working with her and she is getting more confident by the day. She may not be a snuggly lap dog just yet, but she loves to be petted and will now come to her foster mom for affection, placing her front paws on her leg to ask for love. She wags her little nub tail when she sees her person and enjoys being touched, something she didn't allow at first. She even takes your fingers softly in her mouth as if to say, 'Don't stop petting me,' but never bites or nibbles. KIKA is calm, quiet, and gentle, barking only when someone new enters the home, and even then, she'll stop when told. She minds well and seems to understand simple commands like 'stay,' 'no,' and even 'I'll be right back'. She's a smart little girl who just wants to feel safe and secure. KIKA has done well with the other small dogs in her foster home. We are looking for a home with another small dog. She's been respectful and comfortable around a visiting calm child while sitting in a lap, but due to her size and timid nature, she'd do best in a quiet home with older, gentle children, if any. We have not had her around cats. KIKA is making great progress with potty training and will go outside and use a potty pad when needed. She gets lots of praise when she does well and is now more comfortable walking on grass, which she once avoided. She does occasionally have accidents at night, so she sleeps in her own cozy bed downstairs. KIKA isn't a fan of leashes yet and will need continued more practice. She startles easily at loud or unfamiliar sounds and a secure fenced yard is ideal for her safety and for giving her a quiet place to explore at her own pace. KIKA has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, spayed, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration.
