Sunny is the kind of dog who will make you her entire world. She's a classic black mouth cur in every sense - loyal to her bones, brave when it counts, and deeply, fiercely devoted to her people. We are heartbroken to be looking for a new home for her, but we owe it to her to find the right one. What you'll love about her Sunny is a worker. We have two acres in the Catskills and she patrols every inch of it like it's her job - because in her mind, it is. We keep backyard hens, and Sunny has kept them safe from every manner of wildlife that's come through. Coyotes, raccoons, hawks circling - she handles all of it. She's alert, capable, and takes her role as guardian seriously. She's been wonderful with our three kids. Patient, gentle, and watchful in the way that only a deeply bonded dog can be. She is not a dog that loves everyone - she's a dog that loves her people, completely. On her own property, with her family, Sunny is confident, joyful, and fully herself. Watching her tear across two acres doing what she was bred to do is one of the great pleasures of knowing this dog. What you need to know Sunny is an anxious dog, and we say that with love and respect for who she is. We've kept her world small and predictable, and she thrives in that structure. When unfamiliar people come into the house, her instinct is to retreat to a quiet corner until she feels safe. She'll bark at the UPS driver like the world is ending, but she has never bitten or shown aggression toward a person. Sunny is reactive toward other dogs. On the few occasions we attempted walks or trail outings, she was aggressive toward dogs she encountered. For this reason, we do not take her off our property. Her world is her home and her land, and within that world she is a happy, settled dog. Outside of it, she is overwhelmed, and that overwhelm comes out as aggression. She also lived with our Boston Terrier, and while they coexisted peacefully most of the time, there were episodes - rooted in resource guarding - where her behavior escalated into real aggression. These incidents were infrequent but serious enough that we cannot in good conscience continue managing the risk with a much smaller dog in the home. Sunny needs to be the only dog in her new home, and she needs an owner who understands that she is not a dog park dog, a trail dog, or a dog that will socialize with other animals. She is a home dog and a property dog, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Her perfect home Sunny would thrive with someone who understands the breed - or is ready to. She needs her own territory to run, patrol, and protect. A large, securely fenced yard is essential. A rural or semi-rural setting where she won't encounter off-leash dogs at the property line is ideal. She does best with a calm, consistent routine and a family that understands that her devotion runs deep precisely because her trust is earned, not given freely. We've had Sunny since January 2025. She is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. We will provide her full vet records and everything you need to set her up for success. If you have the space, the patience, and the heart for a dog who will give you absolutely everything she has, we'd love to hear from you.
