BEAR is an affectionate 2-year-old, 14.8-pound Yorkie mix with a big personality and an even bigger capacity for love. He is a great dog with a big personality, but he has very specific needs. We are looking for a home with an experienced, active dog owner, a playful, SMALL doggy friend, a fenced yard, NO crates or pens, no kids or cats. If you have what he needs, he would love to meet you! When BEAR is happy (which is pretty much all the time), he shows it with tail wags, joyful zoomies, and enthusiastic 'hugs' and kisses. He loves jumping into your lap, wrapping his paws around your neck, and soaking up attention. He enjoys toys, treats, and especially playing with his person. He naps in a cozy bed near his foster mom as she works, but always follows her if she moves. This high-energy boy loves to play and would do best with another dog his size and energy level to roughhouse with. He currently shares a home with a same-sized pup, and their spirited play and vocal wrestling matches are pure joy. He is, however, intimidated by large dogs and will bark at them, and he's not a fit for homes with cats or young children. While he can get jealous over attention, he takes corrections well and is learning to share. BEAR is housebroken with a consistent schedule and knows how to use a dog door. He may mark initially in a new home, but with routine and reinforcement, he adapts well. A securely fenced yard is a must for his energy and outdoor playtime. At night, BEAR sleeps in the big bed with his foster family, snuggled close. BEAR has a confident and assertive nature and does best with someone who can set clear boundaries while showing him love and patience. In his current foster home he's flourishing. He trusts his foster mom, seeks affection, and responds beautifully to calm leadership and positive reinforcement. His biggest need is to feel secure and connected. It is critically important to note that BEAR cannot be confined to a crate or kennel. Past confinement has led to severe distress and aggression. If you use crates or pens, BEAR is not the right match. There is something about them that triggers him. BEAR is a loving, lively pup who just needs the right person to help him feel safe, seen, and loved. If you're an experienced dog owner with a calm home and an open heart, BEAR may be your perfect match. BEAR has had a wellness checkup at the vet, is up to date on shots, neutered, heartworm negative, has a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. *A Place of Hope Rescue is a foster-based rescue located in Pensacola, Florida.
