Maizie is an intelligent, affectionate, sweet dog. She barks initially but responds positively, is friendly, and settles when people come . She sleeps through the night and is patient when I am slow to get up. She is very food motivated and has learned redirection when seeing deer, cats, even squirrels when rewarded with a treat or two. I adopted her thinking she was a 3 yo lab/pitbull mix who was 'dog selective'. Genetically it turns out whe is American Pit, Staffordshire, Lab. and the rest 'super mutt'. Again, she is a sweet loving girl but I am over 70, short, not super strong, and do not have a fenced yard. She's pulled me off my feet several times. I've done some training with her but believe she needs a younger, stronger person (with a fenced yard for safe training and play, and a love for walking in the woods or running). When I take her for a walk at a gravel pit adjacent to woods, I let her off leash to zoom, we hike trails and she comes when called (though it takes a minute).
