Courtesy Posting: GIG HARBOR (NR TACOMA/SEATTLE), WA- CAT FRIENDLY MALE CHOW 'BUDDHA' IN NEED OF A LOVING, RESPONSIBLE HOME W/ BREED EXPERIENCE/PRIOR OWNERSHIP- but no other dogs please! Please help us find a loving, chow savvy home for handsome Buddha, an approximate 6 year old, neutered chow weighing 64 lbs who was adopted as a puppy and lives with a cat. His owner contacted us for help after she had to move to a much smaller home with a new roommate and her small dog and no yard. While the two dogs got along the first few months, unfortunately, it has been determined that Buddha needs to be an only dog inside his home. He is now being kenneled much of the day to keep them separated so a new home is needed asap. The owner says Buddha 'is not aggressive and likes people and cats, but he has become overly reactionary to other dogs and surprises.' She further explained. 'The house has neighbors with dogs on either side that are very close, within ten feet and we also have a lot of people and dogs walking by. Our next door neighbor's dog always lunges at him, and he barks back at her or chews on the deck out of frustration. He is in constant state of alert and guarding and is very jumpy, with a lot of barking. On walks, if a dog seems calm, he seems okay I'll let him say hello and a quick sniff and then we move on.' However, the owner feels 'He needs a calm home with a fenced yard, no other dogs, and no small children.' She also mentioned her and her roommate accidentally stepped on him in the dark twice and recently causing him to bite each incident. Due to recent changes in his living situation, the owner started Buddha on anti anxiety meds. His owner also said he 'just had his teeth cleaned, updated shots, and is fully healthy'. At the vet, though, please note he has to be sedated. If you are breed savvy and are interested in meeting and adopting Buddha in person, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who is trying to assist with his placement. Sorry, we do not do transport to private homes unless a rescue is involved due to risks of a home or dog not working out for any reason. All adopters will be asked for a home check (which may be virtual), an application, a vet reference, proof of prior or current chows, and a signed adoption contract. If you have a cat too, a meet and greet is recommended and slow intro. We will be posting more pictures and any videos on him on facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/783968124/posts/10167015760458125/?mibextid=wwXIfr Note: to view contents of link, you will need to copy and paste it into your browser.
