Bartok is very energetic, and loves to play with his toys and with my other dog (45 lb terrier). He follows me everywhere and is very interested in everything new. I have a doggy door and one of his favorite things is to take all his toys outside one by one. He loves to snuggle. '۬'۬Good behaviors: I have trained him to sit and (go) down and sit-down-sit. He responds to verbal cues and hand motions, with and without treats. He learned very quickly. He is crate-trained. He allows me to trim his nails, though it takes a bit of wrestling because he thinks we are playing. He does not jump up on the couch (even when I am not at home). He is learning bed is only for nighttime, and sometimes forgets and jumps up when he shouldn't. He does not put his paws on or snatch food off the counter. He is a really good dog and does not do what one would expect of an untrained one-year-old dog. I leave him out of his crate while I have run errands and learned I trust him out of his crate while I am gone. He does not cause any problems leaving him alone in the house.'۬'۬Not as good behaviors: Bartok has not learned hands are not toys and is bad about mouthing while playing. It has been difficult to break him of this bad behavior but teaching him that playtime is over by walking away is starting work. In the meantime, the mouthing is difficult to manage. He has never been aggressive towards me, my neighbors who pet him over the fence, my neighbor's dogs that he plays with along the fence, or visitors to my house. He loves visitors and usually tries to jump on them to play. (We are also working on not jumping up on people). However, he has become aggressive at the vet and the vet could not examine him. The vet advised that when he needs to be seen, he will need to take Trazadone before coming in and possibly adding gabapentin. (He has built up some tolerance to Trazadone since he has been fixed).%A0 An ideal home would be someone who has the time to play with a high-energy dog and the time and patience to train the bad behaviors he has learned. He needs some space to run or a way to get his energy out. He is a playful, energetic, sweet, loving, gentle friend for life. %A0 Fun Fact: I named him Bartok after the bat from the film Anastasia because my sisters think they look alike. %A0
