About Ranger

Hi there, I'm Ranger - your soon-to-be best friend. I'm an 8-year-old Border Collie with a heart as big as my brain - and that's saying something, because I'm very smart. I know how to sit, rollover, and I've got a pretty impressive recall too (just try me!). I've even got a calm 'off switch' - I can play when you're up for it, but I'm just as happy lounging beside you for a cozy afternoon. Life hasn't always been easy for me. After my person passed away, I lived in a yard with six other dogs for a while, just kind family members and neighbors making sure we had food. We were loved, but we didn't get out much, so the world outside can feel a little overwhelming sometimes. That's why I'm looking for a calm, quiet home - somewhere I can feel safe and be someone's priority again. I'm a homebody at heart. No need for busy dog parks or crowded streets - give me a soft bed, your gentle company, and maybe a chew toy or two, and I'm in heaven. I do get a bit nervous when I'm on a leash in public (I wasn't really taught how to walk on one), so I might bark or act unsure. Did you know that leashes by nature cause physical tension? This leads to internal tension. So I will need someone who understands leash reactivity and that means coordinating at vets offices. But don't worry - I'm calm and well-mannered off-leash and in familiar settings, and I'm working on my leash skills with some help from my foster. I get along great with respectful people, including little humans, and I live with other dogs in my foster home - boys and girls, all friendly. I'm gentle, polite, and love to hang out in my foster's workplace where I charm visitors in a shopping environment like a total pro. If you're someone who's home a lot - maybe retired, or just enjoys a peaceful routine - I think we'd be a perfect match. I do bark when I'm left alone, so apartment life or close neighbors might not be the best fit for me-unless you hate your neighbors. I'd rather be in a house where I can feel secure and not worry about being alone too much. I'm house-trained, kennel trained, and have excellent manners, and I just really want to be someone's special boy again. I'm neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and ready to start my next chapter with someone who understands me and will love me just as I am.
