Due to an upcoming move to Puerto Rico, we are looking to find him a loving, permanent home. Koda is a 5-year-old, 80-pound male Labradoodle with an incredible heart and an even more incredible mind. He is exceptionally intelligent and forms deep, loyal bonds with his people. Once Koda trusts you, he genuinely wants to make you happy and will do just about anything you ask of him. He knows several commands including sit, shake, wait, come, back up, and go, and he's eager to learn. Around our family, he walks right beside us without a leash because we've built that trust together over time. We would expect his new family to allow that same relationship to develop before expecting the same level of reliability. Koda is incredibly adaptable. Whether you're someone who enjoys hiking, kayaking, swimming, or running a 5K, he'll happily be your adventure buddy. If your perfect day is relaxing on the couch watching movies, he'll be just as content curled up beside you. More than anything, Koda simply wants to be wherever his person is. He loves playing with our other dog and gets along well with dogs. He's also good with cats. If a cat runs, he'll happily chase as part of the game, but he has never tried to hurt one. Cats that are comfortable around dogs often become affectionate with him, and he enjoys their company. If it rolls, bounces, or can be thrown, Koda is all in! He absolutely loves all kinds of balls and would happily play fetch for as long as you'll play with him. He also loves anything involving water-kayaking, swimming at the lake, splashing in a kiddie pool, or simply playing with the garden hose. Koda has done wonderfully with our daughter and our nephew from infancy through toddlerhood. He is gentle and affectionate with respectful children. Because he previously lived in a very loud, busy household, he seems happiest in a calm, predictable environment where interactions are kind, patient, and respectful. Koda is a true Velcro dog. He doesn't just love his people-he wants to share life with them. If you're gardening, he's outside with you. If you're watching TV, he's at your feet. If you're heading out for an adventure, he's ready before you are. If you're looking for a dog to live in the backyard, Koda is not the dog for you. He wants to be part of the family, included in everyday life, and close to the people he loves. One important thing to know is that Koda appears to have had a difficult start in life. He is a very expressive dog and communicates with his voice. If corrected in a loud or angry tone, he may growl while still doing exactly what you've asked, often with his tail wagging. In our experience, this is a fear or stress response-not aggression. Koda has never bitten anyone. He responds beautifully to calm, confident leadership, patience, and positive reinforcement. If you think Koda might be the perfect addition to your family, we'd love to hear from you.
