SPENCER is a 2 year old, 7.8 pound Miniature Poodle who was surrendered to us by a rural rescue that took in 40 poodles from a backyard breeder. He is going to need a very patient family to love him as he adjusts to being a pet. SPENCER is very sweet, but also very skittish. He has not been socialized and is not used to being picked up and held. His foster family has been working patiently with him and if his foster mom sits down, he will come to her and will usually sit down when she approaches so he can be picked up. Sometimes when she reaches for him he runs backwards, or comes to her so slowly that it hurts her heart. Once he is in her lap though, he stays there and likes to be cuddled. He is not sure about his foster dad yet but he attached to his foster mom pretty quickly. Spencer wants affection, he just doesn't know how to accept it right now. He will be a great pet for a loving patient family willing to show him the way! As unsure as he is with people, Spencer loves and trusts other dogs and likes to run zoomies and play in the yard with them. He absolutely needs to go to a home with another dog. He follows them, learns from them and trusts them. A fenced yard is also a must. Spencer has good days and bad days with potty training. His foster mom is working with him diligently and he has gotten to the point where he will sleep all night in the bed without any accidents. He has accidents during the day though. He will go to the door, but you have to watch closely and put him out right away because he is not going to wait long. Spencer will go into an open crate or pen but he screams, pees and poops if locked in and is so scared and anxious that it will break your heart. He is good in the car and will lie quietly in his foster mom's lap. He loves toys and collects all the toys scattered around the house and puts them in his play pen. Spencer has been to the vet for a wellness check, is up to date on shots, neutered, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. MORE about SPENCER: He has not been around cats. He is not suitable for a home with kids, they will scare him. He has a chewing habit, especially when he's anxious, and his foster family is working on this.
