About Darlah Jean

Adoption Fee: $200
Great Dane
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Darlah Jean is a wonderful and loving pup. It is hurting my heart to have to make this decision to surrender her. She is my Velcro dog, helps me steady me with my balance issues, and when I stop breathing (I have sleep apnea) she will wake me up. She knows her basic commands, is house trained and crate trained. When she is not trying to be the boss, she is best friends with my other Great Dane. They would do zoomies together, jump and play together, chew their sticks next to each other, even chewing on the same long stick together. I also have cats and almost daily it was a given that both of my dogs and three cats were piled onto my bed, with legs and paws, and fur, all over the place, and me getting the one square inch of space that was left of my bed! She is great with my one year old Grandson, approaching him very gently, sniffing him, and remaining calm when he touches her face and nose! Within a very short period of time there have been many major changes in Darlah Jean's life. We lived in a large house with a big fenced-in backyard, with two family members that Darlah Jean was very close with who adored her, her best friend my other Great Dane, and one of three of my cats. Within a couple of months, one family member passed, and as a result, with very little notice, we needed to move away from the other close family member. I needed to kennel them both during the move, where they were separated, only having short periods of time where they could be together in the yard. She was also separated from my cats, one also being her best friend. We moved from a large house with a big fence-in backyard to a very small apartment with no yard to run and play around in. With all of these major changes in her life, losing two very close family members, her home, and her pet friends while they were temporarily separated, she has not been able to find a new normal. She has become so anxious. Since she was a puppy she would play a lot and, to make sure she remained the alpha, play sometimes became a bit aggressive. At the old place she started pacing, playing less, laying down after a short period of playing, peeing in my other Great Dane's crate and bed when he wasn't near, and whining when crated even though she is crate trained. At the new place, she has been so anxious, and those behaviors have increased, and she just hasn't been able to reconnect with my other pets. Once she came home to the new place, there were boxes still unpacked and little room to roam around. When she was reunited with my other Great Dane, she rubbed noses with him, but when she returned indoors after going potty, jumped on him and bit him. He became nervous around her, and the cats hid. Since not being able to adjust to all of these sudden losses, even though it would be another change by her moving into a new furever home, I think she would be happiest in a home where she is the only pet and getting all of the attention. She is current on all her vaccinations, and is very healthy. She will absolutely melt your heart day after day!
