About Nala

Adoption Fee: $100
German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Beautiful silver German shepherd seemingly abandoned roaming a parking lot. I have made every effort to find her owner, but I believe she was abused and dumped (she flinches but shows no violent or aggressive behavior, even when I tried to rouse her to estimate if she would be a good fit for a family with children). Nala is estimated 1-2 years of age. She's sweet and very affectionate (I've had many German shepherds in my life growing up and none were this cuddly). She's playful and gets along with other dogs but enjoys chasing cats, birds, and the water from the hose or sprinkler. I would love to keep Nala, unfortunately my landlord will not allow GSDs and my dog is a grumpy Golden Retriever who doesn't like other dogs. I'm needing to find a home for her asap or I will be forced to take her to the pound. I am trying to avoid this at all costs as they do not update on the status of surrendered dogs and she is too good of a dog to be euthanized. She deserves a loving home. She hates the crate, but will willingly sleep in it if you leave the door open next to your bed. I've been working on crate training her and she goes in, but begrudgingly if she knows you're leaving her in it. The most exciting part of her day is when I wake up in the morning (you'll have to be stronger than me in not letting her put her whole upper body on your bed to cuddle at that point, it's too cute when she nuzzles next to you and I've let her get away with it), and when I come home from work to walk her. She is great on leash and requires minimal correction with a prong collar to stop pulling. She is not aggressive to people coming into our home, but has become protective of the property and barks occasionally at passerby's if she can see them from the open front window. It's not excessive barking, but enough where she would make a great deterrent guard dog. She doesn't really understand tug of war, but with some prodding she will begin playing with you and tugging and loves it. While she has no signs of aggression, she also has little conception of her size. She bumps into me occasionally and jumps when excited, so I think she would do best with kids older than toddler age. Although I don't think she will have any aggression towards kids who might poke and prod. I have tried to annoy her into aggression to test this, and the worst she will do is a playful nibble where she hardly uses her teeth or paw your hand away. Since finding her, her personality has come to life again. She truly is a great dog, and as heartbroken as I am that I can't keep her, I'm hoping you and making every effort to find her the home she deserves.
