About Rocky

Adoption Fee: 0
Australian Cattle Dog / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Rocky is a gentle, soulful boy who has come such a long way and is patiently waiting for the right family to call his own. Fostered in Bethel, Connecticut since March 2024, Rocky is about about two-years-old and weighs 55 pounds. He is a fluffy American Staffordshire Terrier, Australian Cattle Dog, and English Shepherd mix with a sensitive heart and a deep capacity for love. Rocky is an emotional, special-needs dog who isn't the easiest pup to own, but he's worth it. What he truly needs is patience, understanding, and someone willing to let trust grow at his pace. When meeting new people, Rocky can be shy and cautious, especially with men, but with time and consistency his true personality shines through. With the people he trusts, Rocky is a total lovebug who adores belly rubs, snuggles, kisses, and curling up close at night. He is house-trained, crate-trained, non-destructive, and generally quiet, only barking when startled, which has improved greatly over time. He enjoys training sessions, puzzle toys, and food-motivated learning, making positive reinforcement especially effective for him. Rocky has also made huge strides with car rides and will now jump in on his own. Rocky thrives in calm, predictable environments and does best with a patient, experienced dog owner. He enjoys peaceful walks, light adventures, and time spent exploring nature, where he feels confident and happy. While he is fine with dogs in certain situations, he would do best as an only dog or possibly with a very calm companion after slow introductions. He is not suitable for a home with cats or small animals. Rocky is more of a homebody and not a fan of guests, so giving him space or crating him comfortably when visitors are over is recommended. Rocky has mild hip dysplasia, which is currently well managed with pain medication, allowing him to enjoy a good quality of life with moderate activity. He also takes anti-anxiety medication, which has made a noticeable difference in his confidence and overall comfort. A fully fenced, non-electric yard is important for Rocky so he can safely explore and build confidence. He would be happiest in a calm, quiet household with teens and up, where he can settle into a routine and form strong bonds. When first brought home, Rocky will need a few days of space with no forced interaction, grabbing, or pressure. Once trust is established, he becomes an incredibly affectionate and loyal companion who gives his whole heart to his person. Rocky is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and his adoption fee has been waived thanks to a generous donor. If you've ever wanted to help an introverted dog who prefers cozy nights in over a busy social life, Rocky might just be your perfect match. Apply to adopt at form.jotform.com/200883908893166.
