About Atlas

German Shepherd
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

%90%BEժAdoptable: ATLASժ%90%BE Atlas came to GSGSR from a breeding facility, and unfortunately didn't receive much love or positive attention in his lifetime. He is 6 years old (born March 2018) and was used simply as a breeding machine. His health was neglected and, as a result, he needed some serious vetting. With the help of your generous donations, he was neutered, vaccinated, and his tartar-encased teeth have been cleaned. His ear infection has healed up and he's feeling so much better. He has an old injury to his rear knee which has healed, but he limits his weight on that leg while standing still. As a result, xrays show arthritis in that leg. Atlas' ideal furever home is one that understands his physical limitations and has limited stairs, if any. A fenced in yard would be ideal since he's still learning to potty while on a leash (he never knew what a leash was for 6 years), he's more comfortable walking around the yard! He has no problem playing, interacting with people, and going for walks, so his adopters should continue his socialization. He gets along with friendly female dogs but has not been exposed to cats or young children. He is still decompressing and learning the ways of the world (he was kept inside in a loud kennel for many years) so patience and understanding is key. He would benefit from training and continued exposure/socialization. He is mostly housebroken and loves getting attention from his foster parents. He is content just sitting there being your shadow for hours... And he's learning to play with toys. Atlas prefers the company of women and bonds quickly to a female owner; unfortunately due to his history, he takes much longer to warm up to men.
