About Ernie

Ernie is a 3 1/2 year old catahoula/red heeler mix. He has a very sweet and active temperament, is highly intelligent, and loves to play and go for walks. He has been well cared-for and loved, is fully housebroken and understands basic commands (sit, down, stay, come, go to bed, 'kennel' to return to his crate). He has a history of bullying or biting smaller dogs, but loves to play with dogs his size or larger. He is territorial by nature, and he does have some resource-guarding tendencies- he would need to be fed or offered high-value items away from other dogs. He does not have any history of attacking children, but has twice bitten one of his owners, presumably assuming dominance. No other history of attacking humans. He needs an experienced owner who can be active with him, preferably offer him tasks/jobs to perform, and who can kindly and confidently assert dominance. We love Ernie and he has been with us since he was only 10 weeks old, but we are no longer able to accommodate his needs.
