Courtesy Posting: DOWNEY/LA COUNTY, CA (S CAL)- ID #A5599738 CODE RED - 2ND NOTICE GIVEN - HELP!! ADORABLE, SWEET and DOG FRIENDLY AND VERY YOUNG 1 YR MINI NEWFOUNDLAND MIX LOOKING MIX 'GINO' IN NEED OF A LOVING, FOREVER HOME, OR FOSTER AND RESCUE ASAP - WHO CAN HELP? PLS CONTACT ROBIN FOR HELP OR WITH INTEREST Please help us find a loving, forever home for this young cutie the shelter has fondly named 'Gino' after he was brought to the LA County shelter/Downey locations after being found as a stray. His owner has never showed up as we had hoped, and the Downey shelter is now asking for help for this wonderful boy who is adoptable and ready to go home (he was just neutered), but has just come down with an upper respiratory infection on 1/8. Although he is being placed on antibiotics for 10 days, this boy needs out and we are worried he will now be streamlined to the euth list soon. Gino was previously mislabeled as a 1 yr old chow mix and the shelter has recently updated his breed as he has a fully pink tongue and is being overlooked. He weighs 60 labs and has an adorable white patch on his chest. While Gino came in a bit shy, he has warmed up and 'During exam he was tail wagging during baby talk; was tense and flinched when I touched him. Did not display signs of aggression during exam but extreme caution was used'. Once Gino has decompressed, he has warmed up to staff who assessed him on 1/1 and said, 'He was easy to leash and remove from the kennel, pulled moderately on leash while bypassing the other kennels, and was easy to collar although he was wary. In the catch pen, his body was neutral, his mouth was closed, his eyes were neutral, and his tail was neutral. He sniffed the ground. He entered the yard and exchanged appropriate greetings with the other dogs. He roamed the yard for a few minutes before engaging in play with the other dogs. Gino is social with the other dogs, has a medium energy level, and prefers a push/pull playstyle.' The shelter also added that 'Gino was the last dog in the yard when the handler decided to begin the handling assessment. He approached the handler with a relaxed body, soft eyes, ears up, an open mouth, and a neutral tail. He allowed the handler to pet his head, neck, back, abdomen, and chest with no issues. The handler was able to check his ears and teeth and touch his tail. He offered his front paws to the handler and allowed her touch both feet. He then jumped up on the handler and allowed her to pet him all over. When the handler tried to touch his back legs, he closed his mouth, sat down, and turned to look at the handler with wide eyes. He moved away from the handler, but then allowed her to continue petting him.' If you are interested to adopt this sweetie, please contact the shelter directly using this link: https://24Petconnect.com/DetailsMain/LACO/A5599738 or by calling and ask about ID number A5599738. If you may be interested in fostering, fostering to adopt or helping, please contact [email protected] or Southern California Chow Chow Rescue Network who can try to pair fosters with a willing rescue group.
