But after only a month, that same family betrayed him and returned him to the ACC! Now he's in urgent need of a home! He was returned due to his owners claiming he has destructive tendencies. But, as a young puppy, it's the responsibility of the owner to train them how to act and behave. They need to be taught how to be well-behaved, just like kids. Instead, his family just gave up on him, feeling that returning him is the easy way out. However, Keanu is said to be friendly and outgoing towards strangers and even cats. He was friendly, outgoing and playful with the kids he lived with. He's not a fan of his own kind, though. Keanu is active and playful. He allows being brushed and bathed. He knows sit and stay, and loves car rides. Some of his favorite things to do are: playing tug, giving licks, and grabbing socks, towels, and dog toys. Keanu desperately needs a loving home! Was acquired through ACC adoption and surrendered due to destructive tendencies within the home. Previous owner had him an estimated month. Previously lived with two adults and a 12 year old child. Bite history:: On Tuesday, 12/5, around 4pm, owner's mom was in her bedroom with the door closed and the dog, Keanu, was following her. When walking over to her bed and sitting down, Keanu had bit her right ankle and held for a few seconds before letting go. Keanu broke skin, leaving a few cuts and bruising. Keanu stood there until the bedroom door was opened and he ran to hide under the kitchen table for 10 minutes. Behavior concerns include mouthy/takes treats rough, jumps up often or non-stop, jumps up and bites/chews leash during walks, pulls hard on leash and has destructive tendencies within the home. During walks, he will react to strangers that approach owner/family, small animals, small dogs and large dogs by growling/hard barking, lunging and baring/showing teeth. Is not bothered when held/restrained, when disturbed while resting/sleeping, when startled, when pushed/pulled off furniture, when feet/paws are touched and when collar is grabbed/touched. He allows owner/family to bathe/brush. He is a hard puller on leash. He is accustomed to 1 hours walks every day/ 3 or 4 times a day. He has never been crated and loves going for car rides. He knows sit and stay. He loves to give licks and play tug of war. He enjoys grabbing socks, his dog toys and towels. Keanu is on emergency placement for behavioral reasons. Though often presenting as social, Keanu was reported to have bitten the adopter in the previous home. Medically, he is apparently healthy. Keanu originally came to the shelter as a stray. He was adopted once but was returned to the shelter. His previous owners describe him as a friendly high energy dog who enjoys going on car rides. At his previous home, he exhibited behaviors such as mouthiness, destructive tendencies, and hard barking at unfamiliar dogs. One incident was reported where Keanu had bitten the ankle of the adopter, leaving cuts and breaking skin with no clear context. At the shelter, he has been observed to jump up on handlers in a social manner and allow all handling. We recommend an experienced home with no children that does not visit the dog park.
