Sandy is one of the 131 dogs surrendered to Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center on August 24th , after she was seized from the Amish puppy mill in Wellman. On August 26th she went into one of our foster homes. Sandy is a 5 year old, 22 pound Doodle. Sandy has changed a lot and will continue to change as her world enlarges and she gains confidence. She needs a family that won't give up on her and who understands she isn't going to be a normal dog in two weeks. Sandy needs time to feel safe. She startles easily and will drop to her belly or run when she is scared. She never reacts aggressively. Sandy loves attention and seeks attention from the people she trusts. Even after all she has been through, she is still willing to trust. Sandy is excited to see her foster mom when she gets home from work. Sandy is housetrained and left loose in her home when her foster mom is gone. She spent 5 years in a kennel and never needs to see one again. Sandy is looking for a patient, dog experienced home where someone is around a lot of the time. She requires a physically fenced yard so she can run and play safely. Sandy also needs another medium or large size adult dog in her home. She plays well with other dogs and is more confident being with another dog. Sandy has very little experience on a leash and leashes scare her. Sandy is spayed, current on her vaccinations, heartworm tested, and microchipped. She has also had a dental.
