About Ziggy

Australian Shepherd mix
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Since Ziggy arrived in Vermont, he's been a joyous ball of love! He has the classic 1 y/o Australian Shepherd energy-loves to run and play, and multiple leash walks through the neighborhood. Within a few days, he quickly settled into his temporary home, spending lots of time bouncing around and squirrel chasing in the fenced-in yard. Most importantly, he is THE BEST cuddler and will give kisses at nauseum! Ziggy is a VERY fast learner. Within one week, he's gained a lot of progress with leash walking, wait/stay and release commands, as well as completely house trained-no bathroom accidents, not destructive, doesn't jump up on furniture, doesn't beg for people food. He enjoys grabbing his toys, chewing and tossing them around until he tires himself out. Still working on some crate training, but he sleeps through the night (7-10 hrs) without accidents or crying. He plays very well with other dogs in fenced-in, off-leash spaces. Learning how to play fetch, and will do anything for a treat (which is great for training)! He's not off-leash trained yet, but leashed walks have been going great. He's good with passing cars, as well as walking past people with other dogs. He's learning to 'stop' and 'wait' at crosswalks before the 'ok' to then cross the street. Ziggy does have anxieties and triggers that need to be worked on. He is unsure of adult men. He acts very timid towards most men he meets, and in many cases also gets defensive with barking. While he can be settled pretty quickly with treats and reassuring petting, it does take some effort. He also gets startled and frightened by new or unexpected sounds, people riding by on bicycles, and people jogging-reacting to those with the same type of defensive barking. Iggy's ideal home would be with an active person or family who will be able to share in his high young dog energy level. Recommend a home without young children or cats. Mostly, Ziggy is looking for someone with the patience to work with him on overcoming his anxieties, so he can focus on enjoying his best life! https://www.vermontenglishbulldogrescue.com/non-bulldog-application/
