About BUDDY

Treeing Walker Coonhound mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

12/11 UPDATE: FROM BUDDY'S GOOD SAMARITAN: 'Buddy will be neutered January 5th. Buddy is getting comfortable with a routine. Yesterday he walked on a leash outside of his pen, around the yard. Followed direction pretty well with verbal commands and light tug to the leash.' BUDDY'S GOOD SAMARITAN TELLS US, 'Buddy is receiving meds for hook worm. Last dose will be Dec 5th. He is scheduled to be neutered on Dec 8th ( I haven't told him yet :) and will receive vaccinations and blood work for heart worm test at that time. He is still fearful but accepts a lead. Walks around the fenced yard but can be resistant at times to go in a direction you want him to. He no longer rolls around trying to get away. He seems quick to learn words. ' Up here' = come, 'Bowl' = food. He knows where to find it along with his water bowl and bed. He is in his bed most of the time whether it be inside or out. Is very quiet. Has not barked once. Very gentle to take food from my hand. He is house broken. Will go by the door if he needs to go out or will whine to get our attention.' Name: Buddy Age: Approx. 2 years Breed: Hound mix, 50 pounds Sex: Male (not neutered) Location: Franklin County, VA Buddy is a stray who was found in the woods after being hit by a car in early November 2023. His Good Samaritan is trying to help him find a loving home! 'He is a very nice dog, gentle and quiet.' Vet Info: Buddy is not neutered or microchipped. He is not up to date with vaccinations and has not been heartworm tested. We are told that he is vision impaired but appears to see shadows. A vet that Buddy saw is unsure if he is blind due to head trauma or due to being hit by the car. Otherwise, Buddy seems healthy. Dog Info: Buddy is an indoor dog with the run of the house. He is housebroken but not leash trained. While he has not been around other animals, children, or teenagers, Buddy is good with men and women, although he can be shy. He is not possessive with treats, toys, or food. He is not aggressive and has no known bite history. His Good Samaritan tells us that Buddy is afraid of everything, most likely due to his recent traumatic experience. However, he has adapted well to his bed as he feels that this is a safe place. He has also adapted well inside the house but not outside. His Good Samaritan says that Buddy sleeps most of the day. Because he's not leash trained, Buddy is carried out to the pen to do his business. Please email [email protected] if you're interested in Buddy. Please note that we will ask for a vet reference. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
