About Quaker parrot

Pet Bird
Age: Senior

This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only. Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Byrd is 23. I think it is a male, at least I have always referred to him in this way. I have had him since he was 6 wks old. My husband is in need of a liver transplant and we have been told that we will not be able to keep him once the transplant takes place, due to the extremely low immunity that my husband will have. Byrd has a liver problem as well, which causes his beak to grow out very quickly. He is on ursodiol, milk thistle and omega 3 fish oil to help his liver to function. Byrd used to be very social years ago when his siblings ( cats-and dog)were still living. Since a new cat and dog were added and were dangerous to Byrd, as we could not train them to accept Byrd as a member of the family. Therefore Byrd has spent most of his latter years in his cage. I feel very badly about this and even worse that I have to give him up. He is now a biter to everyone but me. He speaks clearly, but less than he used to. I hope that he can be rehomed but would prefer him to be with people who can be patient and have a serious understanding of what his needs are for whatever time he has left.
