Martigan, Marty to his friends, is a handsome, happy, spunky guy. He's 1 1/2 years old with a ton of puppy energy and enthusiasm. Marty is a great size at 18 lbs., with the long body and short legs characteristic of a Teddy Roosevelt, or Type B, rat terrier. Marty loves toys and will play and chew on bones for hours. He likes to steal all the toys and run with them outside, not to resource guard but simply to 'grab & go' for the mischievous fun of it! Martigan is house-trained, using a dog door to come and go as needed. Sometimes he'll pee submissively if he's frightened, but don't worry. Given some time and patience, he'll gain his confidence and have no issues. He's essentially a big dog in a little package. He is adventurous and wrestles with dogs much larger than he is. You'll need to introduce him carefully to bigger dogs because his exuberance can get him into trouble. There aren't any cats in his foster home, but he would probably be fine with them once he figured out whether they wanted to play with him or not. Marty is crate trained, but he'll probably only need one for the first few weeks as he learns your routine. He knows his name and will come to it, especially if he knows a treat is waiting. Martigan has been a superb babysitter for the three rat terrier puppies in his foster home. He enjoys their company and has been helping show them good manners.
