About Gunner

Adoption Fee: $500
Weimaraner
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Gunner is an 8 month old gem who was dumped and currently in foster in Oceanside area. The previous owner tried selling him intact on an adoption site for lots of money. He couldn't get the money so dumped him. He is gorgeous and still just a baby. As in all baby sharks Gunner still needs to learn some manners but with the help of a strong weim owner he's going to be an awesome boy. He's learning leash manners (DOES GREAT ON GENTLE LEADER)and was in boarding having some play time with other dogs. He does pretty good and is friendly and social with dogs big and small. He has been neutered and is available to adopt. Get your adoption application in to meet this beautiful boy. Get the jump on this boy!!! He's young and healthy with a natural tail. From his foster in Oceanside: For a puppy, Gunner has shown some really good restraint. I have not noticed any destructive chewing (furniture), and he largely leaves household items alone except for shoes %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD| he does try to nab shoes. He will nibble at things with tassels. He will explore a countertop if you don't watch him. He came here with a nyla style bone and there is one here too and he will spend some time chewing on those throughout the day. Although, as I write this, he is keeping my on my toes %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD| maybe he is getting more comfortable here, but he seems a little 'busier' in the house this morning, getting into a little trouble. So far, I am not seeing any levels of separation anxiety. He likes to be close by but will spend a decent amount of time in the backyard exploring on his own. I also utilize the crate throughout the day; sometimes for just 10 minutes, sometimes for an hour. I'm trying to keep the times varied in an effort to curb any anxiety or anticipation he could develop about being in the crate for longer stretches. That being said, he is great in it at night and sleeps in there all night. He will be a little reluctant about going in but does not fight it. I would definitely say he is still too puppy to be uncrated if no one were home. No accidents, but he does have free reign to go in and out when I am home. He has a soft mouth when taking treats from your hand. He is not great on a leash, but we have worked on it. I think he would benefit greatly from walks in terms of dissipating his energy. He is big and strong so practicing walking takes patience. We are playing pretty vigorous fetch at least 3 times a day for at least 15 or 20 minutes, I'd say this is a minimum in terms of exercising him. He likes tug-of-war too. He seems like he would like a dog park, but obviously I don't want to test that with him intact. He can start to jump when he gets excited, but we are working on that. He seems to know the command 'sit', we are working on 'wait' and 'lie down.' He barks, but appropriately, when people come to the door. (although, again as I write this he is at the door seemingly barking at nothing %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%BD) He is the only dog here, so I have not been able to observe him with other dogs. Although he likes to 'chase' my neighbor's dog through the fence %BD%BD%BD'%BD%BD%BD| they run back and forth like mad men. I also don't have kids here, so I can't speak to that, but I have made an effort to play with and tug on his ears and tail a little and he does not seem bothered by that, so that is good. He does try to get your hands in his mouth in an effort to play but I don't tolerate it. Obviously if he was super excited he would bulldoze a child younger than 10 or 12 or so. I am small, less than 5ft, and there are moments where I know to brace myself. All in all, he is a very typical weim pup with what I see as an added bonus of minimal to no separation anxiety.
