Duchess is a spayed, 3.5 y/o, Netherland Dwarf with the markings of a Himalayan rabbit. She is litter-box trained and her foster describes her as a sweet, gentle soul and a joy to have around. As is sadly common for rabbits who are kept in tiny cages with little or no exercise and fed unlimited pellets for years; Duchess is obese. While this may seem harmless and cute, being overweight is dangerous for rabbits. It increases the risk of anesthesia/spay complications; developing heart, kidney and skeletal problems; stasis due to fat compressing the intestine; sore hocks, the list goes on! Though Duchess has thoughts and opinions on her new 'healthy' diet and exercise program she is on the right track. Since coming into the rescue in May 2023 she has lost 1/2 a pound! But she still has a ways to go to reach her goal weight. Duchess is looking for a foster or forever family where she can have even more room to free roam and exercise! Is that YOU? Apply today.
