About Gunner

Gunner is a big love bug even though he had been badly abused, mostly by little kids I think. When we rescued him about 3 years ago he was skittish of pretty much everything and did not want to be anywhere needs small children (toddlers mostly). He has gotten a lot better with things and isn't quite as skittish anymore but some things still trigger him sometimes. When we first got him he ended up biting my youngest daughter we think because he got scared and reacted. We didn't get rid of him because my daughter didn't want us to and she wasn't scared of him. He even licks her face like crazy all the time. But, last Saturday he ended up biting my daughters friend. It wasn't too bad, no stiches needed or anything, but my parents said we cant take any more chances and we have been lucky. But I don't want him to be put down for this, he is not an aggressive dog. He will bark if someone rings the doorbell but once we let them in he puts his butt in the air for a scratch and then rolls to his back for a belly rub. Every one that comes in has to rub his belly, even the girl that he bit. I was not there when it happened so it could have been that she made a movement that he thought was threatening or something or if they were playing around he could have thought she was hurting my daughter. I honestly don't know but he doesn't just bite randomly, he had to have been triggered somehow. Regardless, my apartment is attached to my parents' house and they said that we can no longer keep him there. I am trying to do what's best for him and I don't want to drag it out. Not only because my mom said it needs to be done by next week but because he is already not going to know why we are giving him up and I don't want him to just think we gave up on him but that will most likely be the case. He comes with lots of toys and treats and the rest of his heartworm and flea and tick medicine for the rest of the year. I hope someone will be willing to take him in, he really is an awesome dog and I wish I didn't have to do this. He will be great in a house with no kids and maybe other dogs like him or just not really small dogs.
