About Trooper

American Bulldog / American Staffordshire Terrier
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet Trooper!! We found out this sweet boy had been at the local shelter for 7 long months. We decided it was time he found a home to call his own! He came home with us and is now looking to find his new best friend. Trooper is a 1 year old male pitbull type mix. He weighs 68 pounds. He has been neutered, microchipped and updated on vaccines. He is Heartworm negative. He is the perfect dog for a fun loving family. He is super goofy and happy. He has two modes, chill and relaxed or wild child fun guy. He's so loving and wants to please his people. He was chained outside his whole life prior to going to the shelter so he's still learning how to be his best self. Despite living outside previously he's done amazing with potty training. He uses the doggie door or barks by the door to go out if it's closed. He needs some work with leash walking. Hes good on car rides. He does well crated but isn't always a fan of going in at first. He's learning more each day. Trooper is fantastic with other dogs but needs a dog that wants to play a lot. He loves to play with dogs but can be too much for some dogs. He hasn't learned yet when another dog is done playing. He's extremely good about other dogs not liking him. He does not fight back when snapped at and is very submissive in that regard. He's really just trying to figure out how to have friends. He's never been around cats. He's extremely people friendly and would do great with older kids. Hes energetic and jumps up a lot so small kids would not be the best fit for him. Trooper may have skin allergies or he could be recovering from a skin infection. When he was first at the shelter he had no skin troubles. They had multiple dogs come down with skin issues there recently and trooper was one of them. He's on apoquel now to help resolve it. Due to him not having issues for months prior, it could be something environmental at the shelter that won't be a long term issue for him. He has a very calm and chill side but also a higher energy side. He does much better with proper exercise. A fenced in yard would be required for him. He needs that outlet to run multiple times a day. A tired dog is a happy and well behaved dog! Getting a high energy dog and not providing them with physical and mental exercise makes them very frustrated. This can lead to destructive behaviors and difficulties with training. Please be sure you are willing to give him what he needs. He has so much potential to thrive and be an amazing dog with the right exercise and guidance. Trooper has not shown any food, toy or treat aggression with humans or other dogs. He's extremely loving and sweet. He loves toys and any activities you will do with him. He is still in the chewing stage. You will want to crate him when gone and provide him lots of toys and bones to choose from when he's out. With proper exercise and a bit more training he will learn what he can and can't chew on. This guy has such a great personality. If you're looking for a fun loving dog and don't mind helping him refining his training then you'll have the best dog in the end!! Located in Hampton VA.
