About Leroy

Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Leroy is eagerly waiting for his forever family to open their hearts and home to him! Leroy is a one year old cattle dog mix, who was transferred to us from Pecos, Texas. He entered Pecos Animal Shelter as a stray, so his history prior to that is unknown. Leroy is a sweetheart who craves love and attention. He is smart, snuggly, and has just the right amount of confidence. Leroy is a quick learner with a strong desire to please his humans. He has mastered basic commands and household manners and is ready for some more advanced training. He has made huge improvements with his leash walking and recall skills. Leroy is easily redirected when he is being too pushy and is generally very well-behaved. Occasionally when he is bored or stressed he may resort back to some stray-like behaviors; like counter surfing or getting into the trash. Leroy is comfortable with car rides, and does great while crated in the car. However, he prefers to be in the front seat so he can look at the window and be close to his humans. Since his story started with some uncertainty as a stray, Leroy deserves a home where his intelligence can flourish and his separation anxiety can be managed with care. Leroy would thrive in a home where someone is often present. He would make the perfect companion for remote workers, retirees, or anyone with a flexible schedule. He would prefer a home that has an established and consistent routine that will allow him to feel secure and comfortable. Leroy is incredibly loyal, and prefers to be with his humans at all times. He can be an escape artist from wire crates or other enclosed areas whenever he is alone. Currently, Leroy can successfully spend 2-3 hours in his crate at a time; however, he would rather be cuddling on the couch or lounging on his dog bed. Leroy would love a home with an even-tempered and socially-intelligent dog, and does well with cats. We believe Leroy would do best in a home with older children while he works to improve his boundaries and impulsivity. A home with a securely fenced yard for playtime and daily walks would also be ideal! Leroy is neutered, microchipped and has received age-appropriate core vaccines. He is being fostered in Philomath, Oregon and has an adoption fee of $390. If you are ready to meet Leroy and welcome him into your family, please fill out an adoption application on our website: pnwcdr.org/adopt Please note: We do not do DNA testing on our foster dogs. The breed description is our best guess based on the dog's appearance, mother's appearance, paperwork, etc. Adoption Process: - Adoption Application - Phone Convo - Meet & Greet - Home Visit - Application Approval
