Meet Ana!! This poor girl was return to us by a family who adopted her as a puppy. They did not socialize, train or do anything with her to make her feel loved. They gave up and returned her. Great things about Ana: Ana loves car rides and is learning to be more comfortable with adventures in general. She'll happily sit on the stairs, waiting to put her harness on, and is really excited to explore outside. At home she's low maintenance and will let you know if she needs anything, especially pets. Ana needs to work on: Ana wasn't socialized when she was young so she tends to be very nervous/anxious/excited in new situations. This contributes to her exhibiting fairly high prey drive on walks, and some reactivity toward other dogs. She has had some issues with defensive dogs, mainly females, but has been good with a similar-sized male. Describe the ideal home for your foster animal: Ana would love to find a relatively calm home with a patient family that can help her open up at her pace. She'll do best with experienced owners who can help her become more confident away from home. She'll benefit from obedience classes but may need some work before she can calmly learn in the presence of other dogs. She would love a dog that she can run and wrestle with. She'll probably prefer a similar-sized male. She would love to have a fenced in yard to play in, but she's athletic enough that she may be able to jump/climb over fences so she may need some training to learn to leave squirrels, chipmunks, cats, etc alone. She may be ok with kids but may be best with older/calmer kids. What are her favorite games and toys? Ana loves chew toys and stuffed animals. She'll happily take the squeaker out of any toy and will run around the house showing it off. She likes to play tug and has shown interest in balls but doesn't totally know how to play with them. She's very food-motivated so anything involving treats sounds great to her. Let's find Ana her forever home she deserves. She might be a little bit of work, but she has lots of love to give. Spay/Neuter All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease. VETTING NOTE: Fetching Hearts Rescue completely vets our dogs thoroughly to the best of our knowledge based on communication with our Southern Vets. If anything is brought to our attention, we treat the dog. After adopting the dog, you will be responsible for following up with all vetting going forward. HEARTWORM NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 5-6 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
