Phoenix is a 9 year old, 12.8 pound female Yorkie Mix LOCATION: Pensacola FL NEEDS: Fenced yard, doggy friend, loving home. Phoenix was surrendered with 10 other dogs from bad living situation. The person who surrendered her told us that she had been coughing for a long time. It was a very bad cough and we took her to the vet right away. X-rays were taken and the vet told us Phoenix had one of the worst cases of pneumonia he had ever seen. Her lungs were almost completely full of fluid and if we had not taken her into rescue she probably would not have made it another week. After a couple of setbacks and further testing, Phoenix was diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis and a collapsing trachea, both of which are now being managed with medication, 2 and 1/2 mg of Prednisone once a day. (About $8 for a 4 month supply from Chewy.) And it's working great! Her foster mom sees in her eyes and with her kisses how thankful she is that she feels so good and can finally BREATHE. Phoenix loves getting belly rubs, and sitting with her person wherever they are. She gives the best kisses and always happily greets her foster family at the door when they come home. Phoenix does not act her age at all. She has become very playful and even runs/hops around the house a bit and outside. She gets along great with all dogs and plays with all of the young dogs and puppies in her foster home. She is not kid or cat tested, but would probably be fine with older kids. Phoenix is not completely housebroken, but we are working on it. She rides well in a car. She does not walk well on a leash and harness so her adopter will need to work with her on this. Once she learns, a whole new life will open up for her, but until then she needs a home with a fenced yard. Phoenix has a great appetite and loves her snack time. Due to the medication she is on, she has gained weight so snack time has become 'Green Bean' time. At night Phoenix sleeps in the big bed with her foster siblings and foster mom. She snuggles up next to her mom on a silk pillow. Phoenix is up to date on the shots, spayed, fecal tested, heartworm negative, has had a 12-month ProHeart heartworm prevention shot, and is microchipped with a lifetime registration. She has luxating patellas. Due to her age, it is not advisable to put her through surgery for them. Phoenix needs an owner who will continue to manage her health issues and work with her housebreaking. In return you will get the most loving little dog ever! Puppies, dogs with pending vet appointments, and dogs with behavioral issues are only adoptable within a 1 hour drive to Pensacola. Most others we will consider within a 5-hour drive. We do not ship or transport our dogs. *We are a foster-based rescue and do not have a facility. Our dogs live in private homes in and around the Pensacola area until they are adopted.
